Bamboo is really a form of grass. Most commercially available bamboo flooring is harvested from controlled bamboo forests in the Guangzhou Zhujiang province on mainland China, commonly called "The Bamboo Sea." Already used extensively throughout Asia, bamboo flooring is a competitive alternative to rainforest hardwoods.

The NEW Strand woven bamboo flooring products are created by mechanically stripping 4 to 6 year old Moso bamboo stalks, then after boiling in a water and boric acid solution to remove sugars (a termite attractant) and to inhibit fungus and mold growth the strips are dried and the material is woven with Dynea, an extremely low VOC plasticizer from Finland. Then it is crushed in a 2000-ton heat press that operates at 265F. This strand woven board is then milled in a German, laser-guided mill that makes very accurate cuts so each board you receive is cut just like every other board that comes out of the shipping carton. After milling, the strand woven boards are sanded and coated with a 7-coat build-up process with Treffert™ Aluminum Oxide Finish, the toughest flooring finish available. It is important to note that unlike other bamboo flooring that is created by cold-gluing a series of little strips together, Strand Woven bamboo material is a one-piece board. Because of this important difference, this material is extremely durable and very easy to care for or refinish.

Tongue-and-groove strand woven bamboo flooring installs like conventional wood floors which are milled with tongue and grooves on all four sides so no special installation techniques are required. Our material is so advanced that it can be nailed, glued (using a 100% polyurethane mastic) or floated over a thin foam mat where only the edges are glued.

Strand woven bamboo flooring is the most recent bamboo flooring material available and is a replacement for older fused fiber flooring (F3) or gemplex styles. Strand woven bamboo flooring comes in two colors: natural blonde and carbonized, an amber color achieved by heat pressing the bamboo. Because this is not a surface stain, strand woven bamboo flooring retains its color even after sanding. Finished strand woven bamboo floors have a rich texture that are extremely durable at an incredible 2820 PSI. Strand woven bamboo is about as hard as iron wood (2890 PSI) or Brazilian cherry (2820PSI) but strand woven bamboo is much easier to work with, and more affordable too. There is no effect on the durability of strand woven bamboo flooring due to the carbonizing process, just a beautiful color option!
